When Overnight Care May Help

Nighttime can become challenging when changes in health, mobility, memory, or routine make it difficult to remain safely alone. Overnight support can provide reassurance and practical assistance while helping families feel more confident that someone is there when needed.

Frequent Nighttime Toileting

Assistance getting to and from the bathroom safely, particularly when mobility or balance is a concern.

Fall & Mobility Concerns

Support with walking, mobility devices, and nighttime movement when the risk of falling may be greater.

Dementia & Confusion

Calm reassurance and supervision for individuals who may wake disoriented, restless, or unsure of their surroundings.

After Hospital Discharge

Temporary overnight support during recovery when a person may need more assistance than usual.

Changes in Health or Routine

Additional support following illness, a fall, medication changes, or other circumstances affecting nighttime independence.

Family Caregiver Relief

Overnight assistance that allows family caregivers to rest while knowing their loved one has support nearby.

What's Included in Overnight Support

Every overnight care arrangement is based on the individual's needs, routines, abilities, and living environment. The appropriate level of overnight support is determined through an assessment of the individual’s care needs and nighttime routine. Depending on the care plan, support may include:

  • Nighttime toileting and personal care

  • Mobility and walking assistance

  • Safety supervision

  • Assistance with repositioning and comfort

  • Dementia-related reassurance and redirection

  • Support with bedtime and morning routines

  • Hydration and light refreshments

  • Observation and documentation of relevant changes

Overnight Care at Home or in a Retirement Residence

Overnight support can be provided in a private home or as supplemental one-on-one care in a retirement residence. Wherever care is provided, support is tailored to the individual’s needs and coordinated with existing routines and services.
